(With apologies to Elvis Costello)
So, trade unions are reportedly worried that the Government’s plan for zero-hours contracts will break the Labour Party’s July 2024 manifesto pledge.
Which it will. Because, as I’ve said repeatedly on this blog and elsewhere, the manifesto pledge was utter bollocks. And that’s because, as I’ve said repeatedly since at least 2013, it’s simply not practicable or desirable to ‘ban’ zero-hours contracts.
But Labour MPs and their 21-year-old employment policy wonks with a first in Italian Literature only listen to the trade unions. And the trade unions are led by nutjobs who believe a woman can have a penis, a man can breastfeed a newborn baby, and the government can ban zero-hours contracts.
That’s it. That’s the blog post.
Welcome to the working week. You got to do it till you’re through it, so you better get to it.
